We are here!
Good evening family and friends. We are here! John and I arrived safely in Kiev at 4:15 p.m. We are in a nice hotel room located across from O’Brien’s pub at Independence square. It has a kitchen, washer/dryer, microwave (hooray!) and a REAL toilet. We met briefly with our Facilitator, went and had dinner at O’Briens, bought bottled water, and now we are ready for bed.
I have to tell you all the highlight of the trip had to be the flight over. We drove to LAX with Stephanie and Bryce, had Mexican food (figured it would be while before we ate any of that again) and pulled up to the airport curb at around two o’clock. We waited in line to check in FOREVER , had to go to customs to declare all the cash we were carrying, have our luggage x-rayed, go through securities which included taking off our shoes, etc. We made it to our gate easily 15 minutes before boarding and got on the plane with no trouble at all. We flew Luthsansia (sp?) and they are wonderful. Two awesome full meals, endless drinks including BEER, (John was happy!) wine, snacks, two movies, and a really nice crew.
John loved the service, but hated the seats. When we checked in there were not two seats together (since we got our tickets so late) and the ticket gal rearranged everything and got us two tickets together. We were fine with that. Then, while we were at the customs desk she hurried over and handed us two different tickets. She said that due to a few held seats not being claimed she was able to get John an isle seat. Boy! Talk about customer service. That was the great part. The bad part was poor John couldn’t have been anymore cramped. Thank goodness for the isle seat. After two hours the person one seat over from me went and sat in a seat next to a friend and that gave John and myself all four seats to stretch out.
After the two movies I took a walk up the isle, and then took one Ambien. O my! That was the best idea ever. I drifted off and when John woke me up the sun was shining and we were 30 minutes from landing. I felt like I had been sleeping in a bed and got a good nights rest. I have never slept on a plane before. This is deff. the ONLY way to fly!
Our appointment is on Monday at 11:30 am. We will know shortly after that when we get to go see Oleg at the orphanage. Tomorrow we meet our translater and see some of Kiev.
Good night and I will write more tomorrow…
